08-023 Simulis Thermodynamics in COFE

Reported by: michelpons Owned by: Michael Halloran
Priority: major Milestone: 2.0 No dependency/Viewer/New installer
Component: COLoggers Version: Development
Keywords: Cc: michaelhalloran

Description

The defect had been documented as issue 08-023. It involves COFE 1.14 and Simulis Thermodynamics 1.3.0.19. I have not updated the PMC and the PME to their latest versions. However I am using COLTT 1.08.3 as built on October 27, 2009.

In the zipped Word document, the issue had been already documented. When COLTT is enabled on Simulis PPM, one can't get the list of Property Packages supported by the PPM: COFE crashes. When COLTT is not enabled on Simulis PPM, the list of available PPs is displayed in COFE.

I have also attached the log file obtained, which is rather short.

  • Version changed from 1.08.3 to 1.08.4

This issue is still present with COLTT 1.08.4 as well as with the branch 1.08.5. With COLTT version 1.08.5, the log file stops at the line
ClassFactory : Created instance of Simulis CAPE-OPEN Thermo System (1.0) / P.P.M. (1.1) successfully

while in COFE, there is an abort (no debug assertion failure as documented with 1.08.3).

Michel, Can this be retested? Your recent emails show Simulis ThermoSystem being logged successfully using 1.08.5.

  • Version changed from 1.08.4 to Development

I can't replay anymore the exact scenario used to document the issue: ever since the issue was documented, the license management tool in Simulis Thermodynamics has evolved and the license I have is not anymore compatible with the old version of Simulis used here. I have hence made a test with COFE 2.03 and with Simulis Thermodynamics 1.4.0.7. When Simulis Thermodynamics is logged (chosen as a PPM 1.1) and is chosen as the PPM to be used in COFE, COFE crashes all the same.

I think this is somehow related to the fact that Simulis Thermodynamics appears both as a PPM and as a Thermo System. In COLTT controller, whenever Simulis Thermodynamics PPM is chosen as to be logged, simultaneously Simulis Thermo System is mentioned as logged. This is somehow creating confusion.

Still, in COLTT controller, I am making a clear decision: I want to log Simulis Thermodynamics as a PPM and it is under this instantiation that I am trying to use it in COFE. Could the Controller forget about the Thermo System and focus on the PPM?

I attach the log file obtained. I used the COLTT version built on May 30, 2011.

  • Status changed from new to closed
  • Resolution set to fixed

Fixed in 1.08.5. COLTT was treating the PMC as a 1.0 component because the CAPE_VERSION string for Simulis is set to \"1.0/1.1\". A fix to an earlier defect introduced a check on CAPE_VERSION in order to distinguish 1.0 and 1.1 PMCs but it doesn't work in the case of Simulis. Rather than rely on the CAPE_VERSION setting which is unreliable, COLTT now uses the interface requested by the PME to decide which logger to create. The attached log shows the same component (Simulis) being loaded into the same COFE session once as a PPM and once as a ThermoSystem.

Fix will be available in the next .msi
