Here is a series of screenshots obtained with the scenario described while Aspen COMThermo is logged with COLTT v1.08.02. All the “debug assertion failures” look the same.

Can you add some information about what the assertion messages say? Are they all same?

Ahsan,

I have set up the combination of a Aspentech COMThermo 1.0 Property Package within Simulis Thermodynamics acting as a PME. Simulis Thermodynamics will use a COMThermo PP to perform a few thermodynamic calculations in an interactive manner.

The scenario is to open up an Excel 2003 document, to select a few cells in order to insert a Simulis Calculator, then to select CAPE-OPEN 1.0 as “Type de calculator”, then to click on “Sélectionner un package CAPE-OPEN”. The list of available CAPE-OPEN PPs opens up and you select “EthanolWater” under “Aspen COMThermo (CAPE-OPEN 1.0)”. Once the Aspen Hysys/COMThermo license has been loaded in the background, you are able to click on “Calculer” on the left hand side in order to begin setting up the calculation.

Température (Temperature) should be set on the right hand side to 362,5 K (comma is needed) as initial and final value. The initial and final value for Ethanol fraction is 0,2. The “Propriétés” (properties) to be ticked are “Masse molaire” (Molecular weight), “Conductivité thermique” (thermal conductivity), “Volume molaire” (molar volume), “Entropie” (entropy), “Enthalpie” (Enthalpie), and down in the list “Coefficients d’activité” (activity coefficients). Then hit “Calculer la session courante”. A window will open that displays results. Just need to click on the white cross over red in the upper right corner to close this window, then again same thing in the next window and you are back in Excel. Just close the Excel document without saving.

With COLTT 1.07 enabled on COMThermo Thermo System the only issue I have is that Excel.exe remains active in a process while this does not happen if COLTT is not enabled on COMThermo Thermo System.

With COLTT 1.08.02, I have also the issue that Excel.exe remains active in a process so both COLTT versions share the same problem there. However there are also ten or so “Debug assertion failures” messages popping up all along the scenario described above.

I don’t know if it is meaningful to open two issues based on the above. So far I have open issue 09-010 to cover both.

I attach the log file obtained with v1.08.02.

I have run the PMC-PME combination with COLTT 1.08.3 Build Oct 27, 2009. The debug assertion message errors have disappeared compared to COLTT 1.08.2. The log file obtained (excel_110309_102955.log) looks correct. The issue that remains is the following: Excel.exe remains an active process after Excel has been closed when COLTT is enabled on Aspen COMThermo Thermo System while this is not the case when COLTT is not enabled on Aspen COMThermo Thermo System.

I have tested against the scenario using development version 1.08.5. EXCEL.EXE remains active after Excel has been closed when Aspen COMthermo is logged with COLTT. So the issue is still there.

I have re-run the scenario with the COLTT build of May 30, 2011. I still see that EXCEL.EXE is active as a process after exiting Microsoft Excel whenever Aspen COMThermo Thermo System is logged with COLTT while the EXCEL.EXE process disappears when exiting Excel if COLTT is not enabled on Aspen COMThermo Thermo System.

So the issue is still here. I am uploading the log file obtained this time.
